Talk at Graphic Gallery Dublin, recent paintings, MUSE shortlist show

Updated: 4 days ago

Stills from A certain critical period

A quick one today! Firstly, I'd like to advertise an artist talk I am giving at Graphic Gallery Dublin, in Temple Bar, this Saturday, 23rd August, at 1pm. I'll be talking about my moving image piece A certain critical period. It explores the incredible mark-making power of etching as well as America's slide into autocracy, so please come along to hear more. In particular I'll focus on my digital process which is quite unique I think. It would be helpful if you sign up to attend here, just to get an ideas of numbers. The piece is also part of their summer exhibition - so if you can't make it to the talk, I'd encourage you to check out the exhibition some other time.

Recent Paintings

Studies for a Cill Rialaig story, left: oil on canvas, 50x40cm, middle: oil on board, 60x38cm, right: oil on linen, 55x40cm.

It's been a busy time since my Cill Rialaig residency, but I've still been remembering and digesting the place in some small-ish paintings. While self-contained, these three works also serve as studies for one or two planned epic paintings, with a working title of a Cill Rialaig story. Cill Rialaig drips with the history of emigration, and speaks strongly to our present. Please let me know if you are interested in enabling these larger pieces via a commission.

Open Studios

Cain & Abel, two-plate etching with a la pupée and monoprint
Cain & Abel, two-plate etching with a la pupée and monoprint

Thank you so much to those who made it along to my open studios in July - it was great to get so many eyes on my work, and I had a lot of rewarding conversations about art. It was fun demonstrating the printing process as I was

editioning a new etching, Cain & Abel. It is a two-plate etching, with a la pupee and a roll-over.

Thanks for all those who helped me turn the wheel and offered some moral support for somewhat complex print!

MUSE shortlist show

Finally, I was delighted to take part in an exhibition of artists shortlisted for the MUSE residency, run by the Muse gallery on Portobello Road. It's an artist-run organisation who are extremely supportive and host some great exhibitions so check them out if you're over that way,. The show featured 9 young and er not so young, recently graduated artists. It was an interesting experience for me to access the post London-art school scene a bit, which maybe thrives a bit more than sleepy old Cambridge. Photos below are a mixture of mine and Jonathan Milton's, and feature the work of Elise Dublanc, Michalis Karaiskos, Melissa Magg, Celia Mora, Elizabeth O'Farrelly, Emilija Pliaukstaite, Sophia Rosenthal and Jun Shya - check them out, some proper talent.
